Architects, engineers, contractors and building owners are seeking as much information as possible about the Americans With Disabilities Act.  Even though you may have done everything possible to comply with the Act, you could still wind up becoming involved in a lawsuit brought on behalf of a disabled person.

What Is The ADA - AlE Title III Design Video Seminar?
This seminar is a videocassette short course designed for licensed architects, engineers, contractors, building officials, and for those preparing to take the Architect Registration Exam. The seminar consists of interpretation of rules and standards of Title Ill of the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) and application to practical design problems. The seminar is also applicable to B: Site Design Graphic and C: Building Design divisions of the A.R.E.

The ADA – A/E Title III Design Video Seminar was developed from the U.S. Justice Department Final Rule, the ADAAG design standards; letters and published interpretations by the U.S. Justice Department and the U.S. Architectural and Transportation Barriers Compliance Board (Access Board); review of over 3000 pages of congressional testimony; and input from disability, accessibility and legal experts.

The seminar answers such questions as:

  • How is disproportionality calculated?
  • Should ramps be carpeted?
  • When is resurfacing a parking lot “technically infeasible”?
  • Do words take precedence over figures in ADAAG?
  • Is covered parking required for accessible vans when restricted height parking garages are planned?
  • When is a private residence subject to ADA?

What Does The ADA - A/E Title III Design Video Seminar Participant Receive?

  1. VHS videocassette - approximately two hours of instruction divided into decision-making application of federal rules and examples of various design applications incorporating those rules.
  2. A 60-page copy of the Final Rule including the preamble as published in the Federal Register. (Publication of the preamble was discontinued in government reprints of the Final Rule). The detailed discussion is of particular use to design professionals and their lawyers should a lawsuit arise over a perceived ADA violation.
  3. US Justice Department errors and omissions feedback pamphlet (13 pages)
  4. The ADAAG design standards found in the appendix to the Final Rule (over 90 pages) containing federal corrections and additions to the ADAAG design standards.
  5. We have added margin shading to your copy of the ADAAG, to denote differences between the ADAAG and the UFAS.
